Wound dressing supplies: reading the product details

Use the prescribed dressing name, material, dimensions and package quantity to identify a wound care supply request.

Start with the dressing instructions

Use the product and instructions supplied by your treating clinician. Wound assessment, dressing selection and the care routine depend on your situation. The website can help identify a named supply, but it cannot select a dressing from a wound description or photograph.

Keep the full brand and product-family name. A shortened description such as “foam dressing” or “six-inch pad” can match several different listings.

Check material and construction before size

This catalog contains foam, hydrocolloid, composite and transparent-film dressings, as well as gauze and tape. These are different product types. Two dressings with similar dimensions are not necessarily equivalent.

Retain qualifying words in the prescribed product name, including any bordered, thin, sterile or other specified configuration. Confirm those details against the manufacturer labeling rather than inferring them from a white square in a product photograph.

Read the dimensions and package description

Check whether the dimensions describe the overall dressing, a pad or another listed component. Confirm the quantity in each package and whether the listing is a single item, box or kit. Gauze, tape and other accessories should be listed separately when they are needed.

The catalog includes a 6 × 6-inch hydrocolloid dressing and a 1-inch medical tape listing. Their measurements identify different supplies and should remain attached to their respective product names on a refill list.

  • Complete prescribed dressing name and manufacturer reference
  • Material or configuration exactly as specified
  • Dimensions with the units and labeled part
  • Package count and any separately prescribed accessories

Resolve differences before ordering

If the requested item is unavailable or its reference differs from the prescription, ask your clinician about the next step before substituting. Medrax can discuss item identification, documentation and payment arrangements. A product listing does not establish that an insurer will cover it.
