Catheter supplies: sizes, tips and drainage components

Identify catheter size, length, tip style and drainage components before requesting the exact urology supplies prescribed for you.

Read the complete catheter reference

Keep the manufacturer name, product family and item number together when preparing a catheter request. A number such as 14 Fr identifies a size; it does not identify every feature of the catheter. Length, tip style, package format and included accessories can differ between products with the same size.

The Medrax catalog includes compact catheter configurations and longer catheter listings. For example, the listed GentleCath hydrophilic male catheter is 14 CH and 15.7 inches, while the listed VaPro Plus Pocket catheter is 14 Fr and 16 inches. These examples help locate the existing item; matching a number does not establish interchangeability.

Keep the prescribed tip and format

Manufacturer ordering tables may distinguish straight and coudé tips, lengths and accessory configurations. Use the format specified by your treating clinician. Do not select a different tip or size from a photograph or because a similarly named product is available.

For a refill, read the item code on the existing package and compare it with the requested listing. If the catalog displays an item-details notice, ask Medrax to resolve the manufacturer reference before proceeding.

List drainage supplies separately

A catheter, a leg bag, a bedside drainage bag and a connecting accessory are separate product types. A bag capacity, such as 600 mL, describes a different measurement from catheter size or length. Identify each item required for your current setup and confirm the appropriate connection through the manufacturer information and your care team.

  • Catheter manufacturer, exact reference, size, length and tip
  • Bag or drainage component name, capacity and connection
  • Quantity per package and requested number of packages
  • Any separately needed accessories and the prescribed supply schedule

Prepare your refill conversation

Medrax can discuss the exact item, current availability, supporting documentation and expected cost. Keep questions about a change in symptoms, catheter selection or technique with your healthcare professional. The website supply list stores item numbers for your call and does not submit an order.
